A warm-up for the start of class, before students play or start the worksheet. It reviews repeated multiplication and powers of 10 using things students see every day, then asks them to think ahead to the first exponent rule. Two tickets print on each page; cut along the dashed line. The answer key prints on its own page after it.
(2 × 2 × 2) × (2 × 2): five 2s, so 2⁵ = 32. That's today's first rule: add the exponents.
Quick read: 8 on #1 means the student counted the starting cell as hour 1. Students who say 2 × 2 × 2 = 6 on #3 need to write every power out the long way for the first lesson.
