The address to allow
| Address | What it is |
|---|---|
| studentmathgames.com | Every page, game, worksheet, picture, sound, font and script comes from this one address, over HTTPS (port 443). |
| play.studentmathgames.com | Multiplayer games only: a secure WebSocket connection (port 443) to the site’s own game server. No pages are served from it. Block it to turn multiplayer off; everything else keeps working. |
These are the only addresses students need, and the second one only for multiplayer. A check runs before every update to the site so that no new outside service can be added.
What the site is, and isn’t
- Plain web pages and games, hosted on Cloudflare. Each game runs entirely in the browser.
- No accounts, logins, forms or chat. Students never type a name, email or any other personal information.
- No proxy, VPN or “browse through us” features. The site never fetches, shows or forwards other websites, and it makes no peer-to-peer or other direct connections between devices: multiplayer games go through the site’s own game server.
- No downloads to install. Printables are ordinary web pages that teachers print or save as PDF.
What is collected
- Game progress (best scores, levels, settings) is saved only in the browser on that device (local storage). It is never sent anywhere, and each game has a Reset Progress button.
- Page counts: each page tells the site’s own server which page was opened. Only the date, the page’s address and a running total are kept: no IP address, cookie, ID, browser details or location.
- Hosting: like any web host, Cloudflare receives standard technical information (such as IP address) to deliver pages and protect the site. The site itself does not store it.
- Ads: Google AdSense, set to child-directed treatment, so ads are not personalized and Google does not build advertising profiles from visits. See the privacy policy for details.
How long anything is kept
Page counts (date, page, total) are deleted automatically after 24 months and security-rule reports after 90 days. Multiplayer games are deleted the moment they end. Game progress never leaves the student’s browser. See the privacy policy.
Security headers
Every response carries a Content-Security-Policy that allows the site itself and its ads only (it is being rolled out in report-only mode first, so nothing breaks), plus X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff, a strict referrer policy, and a Permissions-Policy that turns off camera, microphone, location, payment and USB access.
Multiplayer
Some games can be played against another student on a different device, through the site’s own game server at play.studentmathgames.com. A player creates a public game (listed for anyone using that game to join) or a private one (joined with a 3-character code the host shares in the room).
- No typing at all except a game code: no names, chat or messages. Players get random, school-appropriate nicknames (like BlueGiraffe) that change every game.
- Only moves are passed between the two players, and the server checks each one. There are no friend lists, profiles or ways to contact or find a player again.
- Nothing is stored: a game lives only in the server’s memory and is deleted when it ends. IP addresses are used only to deliver moves and, briefly and scrambled, to rate-limit; they are never stored.
- Only this site’s pages can connect, and connections, game creation and code guesses are rate-limited.
- To turn multiplayer off for your district, block play.studentmathgames.com. Students then see a short message that multiplayer isn’t available on their network, and every other way to play still works.
Children’s privacy (COPPA)
The site is directed to children and is built to collect no personal information from them: no accounts, no forms, no tracking cookies, ads that are not personalized, and multiplayer games where nothing but moves is shared. The privacy policy describes everything above in plain language.
