For the teacher
  1. 2 × 5 = 10 squares
  2. 4 × 4 = 16 squares
  3. 3 × 6 = 18 squares
  4. 5 × 3 = 15 squares
  5. 6 × 7 = 42 squares
  6. 8 × 4 = 32 squares
  7. 54
  8. 60
  9. 4 × ? = 24, so 6 columns
  10. 8 (7 × 8 = 56)
  11. Any two of: 1 × 12, 2 × 6, 3 × 4 (or rotated: 12 × 1, 6 × 2, 4 × 3)
  12. Riley added the sides instead of multiplying them. 5 rows of 6 squares is 5 × 6 = 30 squares

#12 is the most common mistake: adding the sides instead of multiplying them. In the game, a wrong answer draws every square on the rectangle so students can count to check.

Answer Key: Exit Ticket

Multiplication and Area
  1. 3 × 5 = 15 squares
  2. 7 × 8 = 56 squares
  3. 4 × ? = 36, so 9 columns

Quick read: 15 on #2 means the student added the sides (7 + 8). Have them play Product Picasso, where every square is drawn and can be counted, then move up to Multiplication Monet.
